How many of yous guys use syntheitc vs regualr oil? I am due for an oil change on Saturday and was wondering should I switch over to synthetic or continue with the oil supplied by Ted Britt Chantilly.

I was also going to purchase an aftermarket filter from AM, either K&N or RP. Would this be a good idea ?

I use Motorcraft 5W-20 FULL SYNTHETIC. I buy it at Arlington Auto Care in Arlington for $74+ tax for a 12 quart case (EDIT: I checked my receipt and corrected the figure). That and the Motorcraft Filter (I cant remember FL-500S?)

The dealer will put in 5W-20 SEMI-SYNTHETIC for your oil change. The Motorcraft SEMI-SYNTHETIC is good stuff, but I prefer FULL. Plus you can get the SEMI stuff at Walmart for $17.99 for a 5 quart jug.

My oil/filter stash:

ETA: The oil filter for our Coyotes is the Motorcraft FL500S. However, I believe the FL820S is the same dimensions and capability and should do in a pinch. The FL820S was used on the 4.6's and my 351 Bronco uses it as well.

BTW, I got a 6 pack of FL-420S filter on eBay for about $36 shipped. So with my cost of oil averaging $6/qt and filter about $6, it costs me 30 min and $54 for an oil change. I dont know what the dealer cost is for a full synthetic oil change, but I bet its more than $54.

My plan for my car is to use Motorcraft till 100K miles and switch to Mobil 1 High Mileage. My schedule is 5k miles or 6 months - whichever comes first.

I'm a big fan of Mobil 1, this is my old 4.6 SOHC motor with 100K miles on it:

Its just with the Coyote, I figured Id stick with the home brew (Motorcraft) till I got real good and familiar with it.

I run Amsoil in All my cars, the Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil. Change it every 5k with either a motorcraft filter or other high end one(Wix or EA series by Amsoil) They have a customer program where you get a significant discount(25-30%) off the street price which makes it affordable. Program is 20 bucks a year which you save on your first order.

Mind you, all varieties of Mobil 1 are also available in 5QT jugs for $24.99 - which is $12-14 cheaper than the auto stores. If you want to switch to synthetic, Walmart or Arlington Auto Care is your most cost effective option.

Make sure to double check the dipstick after the oil change, not saying that it happened at TB, but have heard that some people who get their oil changed at Ford dealerships have been short filled. The Coyote requires 8 quarts of oil and the standard oil change is roughly 5 quarts of oil on other Ford cars, the oil techs are typically only skilled to do standard oil changes and tire rotations only. You dont want to be running 3 quarts low

I'm with Bill. I run this in all my cars and truck. No problems.
Wal-Mart has the best prices for Mobil 1 that I've found.
